Waterloo House is a traditional style care home full of love and activity. Known throughout the region for its entertainment and warmth this care home is always full with an active waiting list.
The home has two main accommodation floors and a modern open plan entrance comprising of a light and spacious lounge and a fabulous dinning room. Each floor also has a separate large lounge area, external smoking facilities, two large very modern shower rooms and bathroom and multiple communal WC.
Our rooms are extremely welcoming and a full refurbishment is underway.
To add to the homely atmosphere the home has communal cats and dogs with two brand new boisterous puppies Geordie and Bruno!
Brenda has been in care since 1991 and has been the manager at two of the locations making up the three current Distinguished Care Group portfolio. She further commissioned a new service for the Gill family and spent 18 months as a registered manager for the Akari Care Group before returning home to our 40-bed residential service Waterloo. An experienced manager she possesses her registered manager award, her NVQ level 5 and she is a qualified dementia care mapper (University of Bradford).
Brenda possesses a simple philosophy of care which has led to the inclusive and very activity led culture of this home, quite simply she believes everyone should know they are ‘loved’ and that they know this is their home. Without any airs or graces this simplicity of purposes is demonstrated by the entire team who show endless dedication to the provision of person led care
The ‘family inclusive’ home even has dogs, cats and the occasional ducklings as fellow residents and although the manager strives for outstanding rated care, she never lets that pursuit divert her or her team from the singular focus on quality of life.
After many years as a standalone care home Brenda is delighted to be a founding manager of the Distinguished Care Group feeling this brings multiple opportunities for the home and the home team to learn to hare and to benefit from a shared approach and a shared purpose “Having other managers to call on, to support and receive support is making everything so much better, not only the leadership but other managers and teams. My staff are also benefiting from training and seeing things improve and seeing lots of changes and investment”
